How do I upgrade to Ubuntu server 24.04 from 22.04?

I am sorry say, the only safe way to upgrade to Ubuntu server 24.04 is a full reinstall.

Make sure you back up all of your data using as many different methods as you can to prevent data loss.

Then start at THIS POST, and follow through each of the relevant posts to set up your server again.

NOTE: A lot of the posts on this site have changed for Ubuntu server 24.04.

Then restore any data you need from your backups.

DO NOT attempt to upgrade from the command line using PuTTY.

There is a lot of information out there that tells you this can be done from the command line, these procedures will DESTROY your installation and you will have to reinstall anyway.

Trust me on this, do not waste any time over any quick upgrade method.

I have tried them all, and they DO NOT WORK!
