What is a Daemon?

You may have noticed when using your system lots of messages regarding several daemons.
A daemon is a computer program that runs as a background process, rather than being under the direct control of an interactive user. (Wikipedia).
So when your server tells you it has sent a command to the daemon, is basically means that the command will be run in the background and be processed by the appropriate daemon.
