Which option do I choose when asked about files changes during an update?

Post by Rob Swan »

Sometimes when running the updates for Ubuntu the updater does not know if you want to update your configuration files to a newer file version.

The simple answer to this is no!

Most of your server applications have custom configuration designed to work with EHCP force, some of which we may have also changed during our guide.

So if you were to update any of these files, this could stop the application in question from working how we want it, or even stop it working altogether.

Here are a couple of examples.

For each of these you should choose the option

Keep the local version currently installed.

99.99% of the time this is the correct option to choose, there may be a situation where your version is not compatible with a new version of a particular application, but this is very rare.
